Prevalence of Human Papilloma virus in women with Abnormal Cervical Smears from Sarawak, Malaysia

Introduction: Cervical cancer is common and ranked in fourth place both incidence mortality worldwide. It 3rd most female Malaysia with a lifetime risk of 1 116. Infection high-risk oncogenic human papillomavirus (HPV) recognized as one the substantial factors for development cervical cancers. Methods: was cross-sectional study conducted to determine prevalence HPV infection its subtypes among women various degrees abnormal smears, who were seen colposcopy clinic Sarawak General Hospital within six months’ period from January June 2018. We recruited 56 participants. There 23 each an atypical squamous cell undetermined significance (ASC-US) low-grade intraepithelial lesion (LSIL) 10 high- grade (HSIL). DNA extracted, genotypes determined via polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using two primer pairs MY09/MY11 GP5+/GP6+.
